About the Trip
Nepal New Year Group Trip: Celebrate the New Year in the Himalayas
What better way to welcome a New Year than celebrating with locals in Kathmandu, watching the sunrise over the Annapurna range and exploring the dramatic landscapes of Mustang?
This 8-day Nepal New Year group trip brings together three very different destinations: the cultural energy of Kathmandu, the lakeside charm of Pokhara and the rugged Himalayan landscapes of Mustang. Planned around Nepali New Year on 14 April 2027, this journey offers a chance to experience Nepal during one of its exciting cultural celebrations while discovering some of its most beautiful landscapes.
Celebrate Nepali New Year in Kathmandu
The journey begins in Kathmandu, where you'll explore the city's spiritual and cultural side through visits to Swayambhunath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and Patan Durbar Square.
But the highlight is 14 April, when Kathmandu celebrates Nepali New Year. Experience the local festivities, traditional music, cultural performances and lively streets as people welcome the beginning of a new year. It's a chance to celebrate alongside locals while sharing the occasion with your fellow travellers.
There will also be time to experience Kathmandu's nightlife, including a group pub crawl and a New Year celebration with the crew.
Experience Pokhara, Lakeside Evenings & Himalayan Sunrises
From Kathmandu, the journey continues towards Pokhara, a city known for its beautiful lakes, mountain views and relaxed atmosphere.
Enjoy an evening around Phewa Lake, explore its cafés and lakeside streets, and take in the beautiful surroundings. One of the biggest highlights is an early-morning visit to Sarangkot, where you'll watch the sunrise over the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre.
The experience continues with visits to the Pumdikot Shiva Statue and Begnas Lake, along with a guided food-tasting walk to discover some of Pokhara's local flavours. For those looking for additional adventure, activities like paragliding, bungee jumping and zip-lining can also be explored separately.
Discover Mustang Through Marpha, Kagbeni & Muktinath
The journey into Mustang is where Nepal's landscapes begin to change dramatically. Travel through the Kali Gandaki Valley, passing rugged mountain terrain and the spectacular Kali Gandaki Gorge as the greener hills gradually give way to the drier landscapes of the Mustang region.
Explore Marpha, a beautiful traditional village known for its whitewashed houses, stone pathways and apple orchards. Visit Thini village for views across the Mustang Valley before continuing towards Muktinath Temple, a revered high-altitude pilgrimage destination located at approximately 3,800 metres.
The journey also takes you through Kagbeni, an ancient settlement known for its narrow lanes, monasteries and traditional architecture. Together, these places offer a glimpse into a very different side of Nepal, far removed from the busy streets of Kathmandu and the lakeside atmosphere of Pokhara.
